Spirographa skorinae Growth type lichenicolous Only recorded from Polycauliona polycarpa (Xanthoria polycarpa). Previously wrongly identified as Spirographa ciliata (Cornutispora ciliata), correction by Brian Coppins Mycelium immersed in host thallus with immersed then erumpent pale-brown to black pycnidia in scattered groups of 2-3. Conidia are hyaline, Y-shaped and composed of a thick main axis with a truncate base. Narrow appendage arising from the base has two gradually tapering divergent arms, the arms (7-)8-11(-13) x (1.5-)1.8-2.4(-3) µm. Micrographs below. Similar: Spirographa intermedia has larger pycnidia and occurs on Ochrolechia spp. S. lichenicola has narrower main axis and shorter arms |
